Important birthday for Agrigento
The splendid city of gods Temples celebrates 2600 years since its foundation. It deals with, undoubtedly, of one of the most famous Sicilian cities in the world, thanks to the presence of the precious Archaeological Park.
Agrigento was founded around the 580 a.C.: former home of indigenous peoples, he saw the polis of Akragas rise.
The maximum splendor arrived in the fifth century BC., but the decline of Carthaginian rule followed. During several wars it was conquered by the Romans, who Latinized the name into Agrigentum.

The Valley of the Temples, which preserves precious evidence of the ancient Greek city, has been included in the 1997 among the UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
The historic center of Agrigento it can be dated between the ninth and thirteenth centuries.
